Pre-Trail

We left St. Pete yesterday morning in a rental car and arrived in Gainesville, Georgia last night. After staying in a hotel last night, we returned the car this morning and we were picked up by the Hiker Hostel shuttle. Our reservation is at the hostel tonight (see the pic) which included the pickup shuttle, room stay, breakfast, and drop off at Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the trail. The northern terminus is Mt. Katahdin in Maine. 2189.2 miles north!
Yesterday, after we were picked up at Hertz, the shuttle (a Suburban) had one more stop. We went to Amtrak and got Danger Ranger. He is from NH and is starting to thru a second time. The first time he went 500 miles and had to come off the trail due to injuring his leg in Virginia. Good for him that he's going again! One of many stories that we will encounter along the way. Not to mention our own story which will be happening every day!
Tomorrow morning is our kick-off!  Or should I say walk-off!

Sounds like God has already sent you encouragement (named Danger Ranger!) to provide you with some personal insights and to gently remind you to walk carefully! Walk on Dear Friends! Robin & Sam

I guess it wasn't meant for us to be on the trail w/u I just found out I have shingles! It should be gone in about a week but the pain can remain for a very long time. It's a mild case but it still hurts some, like a dull ache. HOWEVER, we still want to try & meet up w/u guys sometime! Love you both!
