Arrived and Working

We have made it to Bar Harbor KOA oceanside campground.  We actually have been over a couple weeks now but it took me this long to sit down and write about it.  After spending some time in Raleigh with Autumn and the boys, we took 4 days/nights to travel the rest of the way up here to Maine.  Our stops along the way were Charlottesville, VA - Harrisburg, PA - Mystic, CT - Saco, ME.  We arrived here in Bar Harbor on April 28 on a blustery day.  There had been a lot of rain so getting parked in our site was a little challenging due to the soft ground.  We finally had to put down a board to run the tires up on to avoid bogging down.  We have had rain on several days but now the weather is turning into those perfect Spring days with sunshine.

We have had a little bit of time to explore on our days off with more to come.  We drove to the summit of Cadillac mountain in Acadia Natl Park.  We have enjoyed several restaurants, too.  I haven't had that lobster dinner yet but lobster places are everywhere.

We have a great team here at both of the KOA campgrounds, Woodlands and Oceanside.  Our first week here, the campground wasn't open yet so all the workampers started cleaning cabins/lodges, bathroom/shower areas, etc.  The men had to cut down and remove several trees, a big job.  Also the 2 stores/offices had to be put together and set up. We are now open for business.

Our hours of work have been varied which I prefer rather than the same schedule day after day.  The campground has been open  a couple weeks now with campers coming in on the first day.  We have quite a few arriving this coming holiday weekend.  It is really enjoyable getting to interact  with all the happy campers.  What a great atmosphere to work in!  It really is beautiful here.  We had never been to Maine (other than on the Bangor tarmac years ago).  It is so green and "fresh" - lol.  Just what you would picture for outdoorsy stuff.  And the town of Bar Harbor is full of shops and restaurants and scenery!

We plan on a lot of hiking and seeing what there is to see here.  There is also a "whale and puffin watch" we want to go on.  And on Maine's license plates.....Vacationland.
