Saturday storms

Saturday was an interesting day here at the campground. We knew bad weather was headed our way after seeing it on the tv screen and hearing it on the weather radio. When the tornado warning alert sounded on the radio, the information stated the tornado was headed northeast toward the small town of Wade where the campground is, and also toward the city of Fayetteville which is just a few miles south of us. The safest location when a tornado is near is definitely not in an RV. Here at the KOA, the office is made of block and the bathroom/shower area is the most secure spot. Several people were waiting in the bathroom area and several were outside watching the skies. I was back and forth in both places, weather radio in tow - (which, by the way, is an excellent thing to have in unstable weather). The wind did pick up and the sky became a darker gray but it seemed as if the storm was sidestepping where we were. Thankfully, we had nothing more eventful here at the campground other than some wind and brief rain. The storm/tornado hit just south of us in northern Fayetteville and also in the Ft. Bragg area. Quite a bit of damage and destruction. Then the tornado hit the Dunn area which is about 10 mi. north of us up interstate 95. Again more damage. The Smithfield KOA which is about 45 mi. north of here was hit. They had trees down and no power. They had to close down and many campers that were headed there, ended up staying with us. I am not sure when they will re-open. All is well with Dale and I. We are thankful.
